OWNER & COACH
Amie has been coaching youth sports since she was a youth. She started out helping her mom coach gymnastics and swimming when she was 13 and has never looked back. She has taught all ages from 6 week old babies in their first swim lesson to a master’s soccer team. Coaching youth sports grew as a passion after her son joined SelecTri in 2015 and she saw the team needed a few extra coaches. She has been triathlon coach ever since and is thrilled to be the Owner of SelecTri as of 2019.
Her philosophy regarding youth sports is that the athlete should take a lead in their sporting career with positive support from coaches and parents. From recreation to competitive levels, kids should be encouraged to do their best and have some fun. No matter the level, Amie hopes triathlon will foster a love of fitness and sport for kids well into their adult lives.
Amie is also an active triathlete. She has participated in countless triathlons, running events, swim races and even a few bike races. Her favorite race distance is the Half (half marathon and half iron distance triathlon) but she has found the most success as an athlete in the sprint distance. She loves to race and her primary focus is just improving which she hopes to pass onto future generations of triathletes.
Her coaching qualifications include: USAT Level I Triathlon Coach, USAT Youth and Junior Coach, Ironman Certified Coach, USA Cycling Level 3 and RRCA Run Coach.
Karen signed up with a running group to learn how to run in 2010. After her first race – running has become a passion of hers. She has been involved in triathlon for several years and became a USAT Level I Certified Coach in 2014. She began coaching SelecTri Youth Program in October 2014. Karen loves coaching the youth triathletes and believes a positive sports experience will enhance self esteem for youth as they face many changes in their lives.
Sharon has been a competitive runner for over 12 years. Sharon has enjoyed podium finishes in her age group for distances ranging from 5K, half marathon, and marathon distances. Sharon qualified and ran her first Boston Marathon in 2005. She recently set a personal best at the Houston Marathon of 3:29. Eager to take on a new challenge, Sharon began training for triathlons where she has competed in sprint, Olympic, half Ironman and Ironman distances.
Sharon embraces the coaching philosophy of training smarter, not harder. Sharon enjoys helping students achieve their race goals. For the past several years, Sharon has helped train SelecTRI athletes for success in triathlon. Sharon is certified by Road Runners Club of America (RRCA), USAT Level I and USAT Youth and Junior.
